Former Newsboys singer admits to substance, sexual abuse

Tait addresses accusations against him on social media

A Christian music star has admitted to drug and sexual abuse. In early June 2025, reports from The Roys Report surfaced with serious allegations against former Newsboys and DC Talk member Michael Tait, accusing him of sexual misconduct and drug abuse dating back to 2004. These reports stemmed from a two-and-a-half-year investigation that included interviews with over 50 sources, with three men specifically accusing him of grooming and non-consensual contact.

On June 10th, Tait publicly confessed to much of the reported “reckless and destructive behavior,” including using cocaine, excessive alcohol consumption, and “unwanted sensual contact” with men. In a typed letter he called “My Confession,” he stated that he had been “living two distinctly different lives” for some two decades and that he entered a treatment center in Utah shortly after leaving Newsboys in January to get help. He expressed deep shame and apologized to those he had hurt.

The remaining members of Newsboys (Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, and Adam Agee, who has taken over as lead singer) released a statement expressing their “horror, heartbreak, and anger” and stating they felt “deceived” by Tait, who had admitted to them in January that he was “living a double life.”

Newsboys continues its Worldwide Revival Nights Tour in 2025 with Agee as the lead vocalist.

Newsboys is one of the biggest bands in Christian music history, having sold more than ten million units across 23 recordings and garnering boundless accolades, including one RIAA platinum certification and eight gold certifications, 33 No. 1 radio hits, four Grammy nominations, two American Music Award nominations and multiple Dove Awards.

With signature songs like “We Believe,” “Born Again” and the unstoppable mega hit “God’s Not Dead” — which birthed a film franchise of the same name — Newsboys has continued to collect career-defining accolades at full speed ahead. For over three decades, the band has toured extensively throughout the world to present their unparalleled high-energy shows, from their formation in Australia to their current residence in the United States, and everywhere between.
