Famous singers, like most people who possess a certain level of wealth and live out their lives in the public eye, tend to enjoy the finer things in life. However, some of our favorite musicians can be surprising, and finding out what they enjoy cooking for themselves and their loved ones is always a fun treat. Here are a few recipes singers definitely like to make in their downtime, and maybe they’ll prove useful for whenever you’re feeling low on inspiration in the kitchen.
1. Beyonce’s Guacamole
This recipe made the rounds online a few years ago, and it’s easy to see why. Sure, everyone loves Beyonce, but her specific take on guacamole has proven to be exceptionally popular, too. She starts out by peeling and smashing two avocados with the back of a spoon – not a fork, apparently, it’s easier this way. Then, add plenty of veggies: onions, tomatoes, garlic, lime juice, salt, and pepper, and mix until smooth and creamy. This is a delicious and comparatively speaking, low-fat version of the dish, given the absence of oil.
2. David Bowie’s Shepherd’s Pie
This hearty dish is a bit of a surprise coming from the ultra-cool king of post-punk, and glam rock. Ask anyone who knew him personally, or who is aware of recipes from the music industry, this one tends to top the list. This was Bowie’s favorite dish, and his wife, Iman would help him prepare it often for the family. His version doesn’t deviate far from the traditional approach to shepherd’s pie, although it seems he may have preferred ground lamb to ground beef.
3. Patti LaBelle Mac and Cheese
If you haven’t heard of Patti LaBelle’s Mac and Cheese, then you must have been living under a rock for the past few years. Her recipe has become as iconic as the singer herself. It’s a simple, no-frills recipe that delivers big time when it comes to flavor. Unlike other traditional recipes, you don’t have to make a super-involved cheese sauce – just toss the ingredients together. Also, you use all kinds of cheese, and a lot of it: five cups. It’s decadent and cozy and completely worth the effort.
4. Barbra Streisand’s Ice Cream
Streisand knew how to hack instant coffee long before it became a trend on social media at the peak of the pandemic. She uses instant coffee, milk, marshmallows, and salt, and brings it to a slow boil for a few minutes. She folds it into whipped cream, then freezes everything for a few hours – no ice cream maker required. There are other cool ingredients she adds for a bit more flavor or texture, like a sauce with dark chocolate and nuts. Or you can leave things simple, and eat the coffee-flavored concoction right out of the fridge. It’s comforting and exactly what a doctor would prescribe on a hot summer day.
We look up to celebrities for many things, but solid recipes aren’t usually one of them. Nonetheless, these recipes have become popular for a reason, and people have the right to applaud them – no pun intended – for their takes on the classics. Try these recipes and enjoy a flavorful delight with your friends and family.
