The news country music fans have been waiting for more than a decade has been revealed… Garth Books will open his world tour in Chicago.
Andy Roberts, who asked Brooks that question at a January show in Las Vegas, revealed the news around 5:30 pm ET Monday (July 14th) on Twitter and an Atlanta radio and TV station. He was assisted by kids of the Atlanta branch of Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation.
While no other details were revealed, such as dates or ticket information, more is expected on Tuesday (July 15th) with the launch of Brooks’ new website.
The frenzy crashed Roberts’ company website for a time.
We will have more details as they become available.
Meanwhile, a last ditch effort to revive the five comeback shows in Ireland has officially been called off. Brooks released the following statement on Monday afternoon revealing how sad he is about the decision.
“I have always been advised to NEVER send a message in ‘the moment.’ It is said it is best to take a walk, wait awhile, and think about it,” he said in a press release. “With that said, I just received the news the Dublin City Council cannot change their earlier ruling to not allow the licenses for all five shows. To say I am crushed is an understatement. All I see is my mother’s face and I hear her voice. She always said things happen for a reason and for the right reason. As hard as I try, I cannot see the light on this one. So it is with a broken heart, I announce the ticket refunds for the event will go as posted by Ticketmaster.
“I want to thank the Irish authorities for going the distance for all of us who wanted to share songs and dance together. I really want to thank all the people around the world that continued to think good thoughts that this would actually happen. Most of all, to Peter Aiken [of Aiken Promotions] and those 400,000 people who believed enough to go through what they have been through to get to this point…I love you, always have, always will. I encourage any and all of them that can come see the show, at some point around the world, to bring your Irish flags and wave them proudly at the concerts. I will be looking for you.…garth.”
“So it is with a broken heart, I announce the ticket refunds for the event will go as posted by Ticketmaster.”
Refunds were set to begin today (July 14th), but Ticketmaster held off due to the on-going negotiations.
“Ticketmaster understands that negotiations to try and find a resolution to the Garth Brooks concerts situation are still ongoing,” Ticketmaster said in a statement. “As a result, Ticketmaster will be delaying commencement of the refunds process until Thursday, July 17th. We would ask customers/fans to continue to be patient and to hold onto their tickets for now.”
Refunds begin July 17th at 9 am Ireland time.
