Brooks was part of a global conference
Garth Brooks performed at the Vatican this past weekend. He was a guest at the global conference, World Meeting on Human Fraternity. The country star was invited to perform by the Fratelli Tutti Foundation, which organized the event under the theme of #BeHuman.
The conference had about 350 attendees, including 30 Nobel Peace Prize winners, scientists, economic experts, social activists, doctors and athletes. This was the second annual discussion focused on promoting human fraternity and peace in fields like environment, education, business, agriculture and health.
“What you find is: we’re really not that different,” Brooks says.
“You know, you’re sitting at a table with [Nelson Mandela’s widow, Graca Machel] Mandela…the Cardinal [who led discussions]…Nobel Peace Prize winners,” Garth continues, painting a picture of the event he found himself in. “All we talked about were our children…the future…policy – stuff like that, what occurs to you is the borders that are between us are the walls we’ve built ourselves! And – it’s funny – the only ones who can take down those walls are the same people who built them.”
The conference participants had an audience with Pope Francis on Saturday, before the culminating concert event. Other notable American attendees included NASA Administrator and former astronaut and US Senator Bill Nelson, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and NFL great Tom Brady. Garth’s event-ending acoustic performance included such songs as “The River,” the hymn “Amazing Grace,” and “The Change”…which he felt was a perfect fit for the gathering.
