ORIGINAL POST: 11/9/13:
Garth Brooks has announced that he is releasing a new four CD boxed set entitled Blame It All On My Roots: Five Decades Of Influences on November 19th through Walmart.
The new limited edition boxed set was revealed during the last 15 minutes of Great American Country’s TV special of the same title on Saturday night (Nov 9th). The set will feature Brooks covering 40 songs from artists who have influenced him throughout his life, many of which he has performed in part during his One Man Show at the Encore Theatre in Las Vegas. Songs include covers of James Taylor, Gladys Knight, Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Great Balls of Fire,” Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and more.
Wife and fellow country artist Trisha Yearwood will appear as a background vocalist throughout the project and duet partner on the 1971 Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn classic, “After The Fire Is Gone.”
Each disc is set to contain ten tracks from a certain period of music called Country Classics, Classic Rock, Blue-Eyed Soul covering R&B material and Melting Pot which is described as songs that don’t fit the other categories, such as Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson.”
Brooks has spent much of 2013 in the recording studio working on this project.
No pre-order information has been released at this time, but after a little investigating, we have uncovered a tiny picture of the set at Walmart’s website. It appears this could be a CD/DVD boxed set, as it looks like six discs are pictured as part of the packaging and the box seems to be the same size as Brooks’ previous two six disc The Limited Series boxed sets released exclusively through Walmart in 1998 and 2005. We are unable to confirm this as of now, given the size of the image and only four CDs were mentioned during the TV special, but we will have more details as soon as they are released. We expect an official announcement to be released early this coming week as November 19th is less than two weeks away.
If this is a CD/DVD boxed set, perhaps it will include this summer’s Encore Theatre shows that were reportedly filmed for a DVD release. I guess we will have to wait and see. Either way, Brooks will no doubt perform some of these covers, as well as many of his own hits, during a live concert special from his final Encore Theatre show on CBS on November 29th.
