Glass Animals score longest running Billboard No 1 song by group

“Heat Waves” continues to reign for sixth week

Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” continues to be the biggest song in the world for another week, as it remains No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the fifth week in a row. Last week, it became the longest-leading No. 1 song by a British group in over 25 years, since Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1997. Now its reign is among the top 10 longest ever for songs by British groups, alongside songs by The Beatles and Wings. The global hit is part of the first set of solo-written songs to top the Hot 100 consecutively for at least five weeks each in over 41 years, tying with Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”

“Heat Waves” also has set a new record for the most weeks at No. 1 for a song by a group on the Billboard 200 Global Chart, now leading for six weeks in a row. In addition, the song holds No. 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs Chart for the fourth week in a row.

This adds to the band’s numerous No. 1’s, including, Top 40 Radio Chart, Alternative Radio Chart & Hot AC Radio Chart (a first in the band’s career), Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs Chart, Apple Music Alternative Top Songs Chart, Spotify’s Global 50 chart (for 61 days) and more.

The song has broken numerous records and maintained its longevity through numerous platforms and support from fans and channels across the industry.

In addition to Glass Animals’ recent success, frontman Dave Bayley co-wrote and co-produced Florence + The Machine’s newest single “My Love,” adding to his already impressive list of collaborations with other artists.

“Heat Waves” ties for the sixth longest No. 1 among a British group in the chart’s history.
