Goo Goo Dolls part ways with drummer after 19 years

Mike Malinin confirmed the news via Twitter

The Goo Goo Dolls and long time drummer Mike Malinin have parted ways after 19 years together, both parties have confirmed. Classic Rock Magazine reports that Malinin has been absent from the band’s current US tour while tending to family matters, believed to be the birth of twins with his wife.

Malinin confirmed the news via Twitter and stated that the decision was not his.

The band posted on their Facebook page, “It is true Mike is no longer with the band, but we wish him the best in his new journey and hope that fans and friends alike will take a minute to consider this decision was not taken lightly by anyone involved.”

The statement continues, “Things happen personally and professionally that drive difficult decisions like this, but rest assured we are looking forward to continuing our 28 year journey as GGDS.”

Malinin tweeted to estranged Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora to ask if he’d form a band with him.

While Lifehouse sticksman Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. has has been touring with the Dolls, no replacement for Malinin has been announced as of press time.

Singer and guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac co-founded the band in 1985 with original drummer George Tutuska who Malinin replaced in 1995. Guitarist Brad Fernquist and multi-instrumentalist Korel Tunador are currently touring with the band along with Woolstenhulme Jr.
