The film documents the band’s foray into Broadway
Broadway Idiot, the documentary film that chronicles the creation of Green Day’s American Idiot into a Broadway musical, opens in theaters in October. The film is set to debut in New York on October 11th, one week before it’s wide release on October 18th when it also debuts on Video On Demand (VOD) platforms.
The documentary follows the band’s first foray into Broadway as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong works with producers to turn Green Day’s hugely successful American Idiot album into a Broadway spectacle. The film takes fans behind the scenes to reveal the creative choices and challenges Armstrong and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer had to endure to make the show the one-of-a-kind musical experience thousands of fans flocked to New York to see in person during it’s 2010-2011 run.
Armstrong also stepped into one of the starring roles a few times during the show’s run, making those shows more memorable for fans lucky enough to see him.
Broadway Idiot will open for an exclusive New York engagement on October 11th. It will be followed by a wider release on October 18th when it will also be available on VOD in the US and Canada on all digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Cable Movies On Demand, Google Play, Xbox Video, Sony Playstation, Cinemanow and Vudu.
