Anthemic new single available now
Critically acclaimed dance producer Gryffin is back with the ecstatic single “Piece of Me,” featuring rising Swedish pop force Lova. The bold and dynamic track, out now via Darkroom Records, evokes the energy of the last days of summer, using pulsating synths and soaring vocals to emphasize an empowering message.
“‘Piece of Me’ is a song that I probably had the most fun recording during this past year,” Gryffin shares of the track. “When the world turned upside down, and all my shows and traveling stopped, I was yearning for some energy and bounce back into my life, and this record gave me that jolt of excitement I needed. We wanted to create a fun, upbeat, self-confidence anthem, and we’re so happy with how this record turned out.”
Gryffin’s anthemic electronics provide a colorful backdrop for the track’s central theme of learning to put yourself first. Lova begins by lamenting failed attempts at love and dealing with all the wrong people while waiting for true romance. But as the pop beats shimmer and shine, and classic house-inflected beats drive the track forward, she uses these tough times as fuel for her search for self-worth. Eventually, she sings confidently and defiantly about how she wants to be treated. “If you want a piece of me,” she sings. “Try harder … Be smarter.”
“Piece of Me” continues a run of singles from Gryffin that are both emotionally resonant and intricately produced. “New Blood,” his August cut with Boy Matthews, explores the feeling when someone special reignites your happiness. February’s “I Want Love,” featuring Two Feet, came soaked in sentimentality and the comfort of mid-tempo dance beats. This year, he also released the glimmering summer anthem “Best Is Yet to Come,” featuring Kyle Reynolds — rounding out the vast spread of moods and sounds that the producer has explored in 2021 already.
Gryffin is set to play a number of emotional, infectious sets across 2021 and beyond with his Las Vegas residency at The Wynn’s Encore Beach Club and XS Nightclub still in motion. With songs like “Piece of Me,” Gryffin shows he’s tapped into dance music’s inherent euphoria, something that’s sure to be even more apparent when he’s standing on stage.
