H.E.R. covers George Michael for Old Navy TV spot

Spot airing now

To kick-off summer and celebrate America’s homecoming, Old Navy is launching its newest TV spot featuring a modern day rendition of the iconic George Michael song, “Freedom,” performed by award winning singer-songwriter H.E.R.

H.E.R. adds a rock spin to the ’90s anthem for this celebratory spot, rocking out on her electric guitar in the energetic streets of New York. The 23-year-old artist wears her signature sunglasses in the spot, putting her own “tomboy chic” spin on the classic Old Navy Americana look. On the heels of Oscar and GRAMMY wins, H.E.R. is taking the music world by storm and is making a name for herself through her unparalleled talent. In a behind-the-scenes interview, H.E.R. reflected on her personal connection to the campaign, remembering shopping at Old Navy with her mom throughout her childhood. She wants people listening to the song to feel a sense of hope and joy as America comes together again this summer.

As a brand that stands for inclusivity, there’s no better time to honor America’s birthday and new sense of freedom than with a welcome back party where everyone is invited. Throughout H.E.R.’s performance in the spot, the call for celebration is clear – all of us are welcomed back to celebrate our differences and our freedom.

The spot kicks off in digital media on Thursday (May 27th) and broadcast on Friday (May 28th).
