Hachette Books to release Christine McVie biography

The book will be available this fall

Since bursting onto the rock scene in 1968 with their chart-topping hit, “Albatross,” Fleetwood Mac has become one of the most beloved and bestselling rock bands. Hachette Books is excited to present Songbird, an intimate biography of the famed singer-songwriter Christine McVie from critically acclaimed biographer, Lesley-Ann Jones, due on November 19th.

Christine McVie–born Christine Perfect–was the quintessentially English rock star, as both the backbone and the beating heart of Fleetwood Mac. She wrote and performed many of their greatest hits and was dubbed “the mother” of the band. It was Christine who contained the flock, regrouped them when they went AWOL, and always got them back on track. And yet, as the “engine” of the band during their Rumours era–an album that charted the romantic disintegration within the band–Christine’s personal life was every bit as tempestuous as those of her bandmates.

Told by an author who herself was friends with Christine, and with new contributions from those who knew her best, Songbird offers a true insider’s view and psychological insight into Christine as both a woman and a musician––the ultimate picture of a rock legend and a national treasure.

Lesley-Ann Jones is a critically acclaimed biographer who has written bestselling books on Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, John Lennon, The Rolling Stones, Kylie Minogue, Marc Bolan, and more. Upon initially meeting Christine McVie and the other members of Fleetwood Mac, Jones developed a true friendship with McVie, and the spirit of that relationship is deeply embedded within the chapters of this fascinating biography.

McVie passed away at the age of 79 in November 2022. She was the band’s keyboardist and co-lead vocalist who joined the group in 1970 but left the band in 1998 before rejoining in 2014. She was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her bandmates in 1998.
