Huey Lewis & The News headline St. George Theatre

On Sunday, February 26th, the St. George Theatre will celebrate its 87th anniversary with the annual Red Carpet Gala and Benefit Concert starring Huey Lewis and The News.

Huey Lewis and The News are truly one of America’s great rock and roll bands. As they enter their 38th year together, their contagious brand of music has outlasted countless trends, and is as fresh today as ever. Formed from two rival Bay Area bands in 1979, they continue to thrill audiences worldwide, selling over 20 million albums in the process, earning them the right to mark their place on the pop history map with songs like “The Power of Love”, “Heart of Rock & Roll”, “Stuck With You”, “I Want A New Drug”, “If This Is It”, “Hip To Be Square” “Do You Believe In Love” and “Workin’ For A Livin’.”

“We are very excited to host the iconic Huey Lewis & The News as we celebrate the theatre’s 87th anniversary,” says Doreen Cugno, President & CEO of the non-profit theatre. “The gala is such an important fundraiser for us as we strive to fulfill our mission of both restoring the historic theatre and offering the Staten Island community a wide variety of programming”.

Each year at the Gala, the Georgie Awards are presented to recognize those friends who have made it possible for the St. George Theatre to continue and thrive in our mission. This year’s recipients of the Georgie Awards are The Stephen Siller/Tunnel to Towers Foundation; and David Barry, President of Ironstate Development Company and CEO of URBY; for their outstanding contributions the community.

The annual Red Carpet Gala is the principal fundraiser for St. George Theatre Restoration Inc. and features a pre-show cocktail reception, Georgie Award presentation, followed by the concert with Huey Lewis and The News and an after- party in the grand and mezzanine lobbies with open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and dance music.

The special opening act Huey Lewis and The News will be John Castellano and Richie Castellano, a father-son duo from Staten Island, New York. John Castellano was a former guitarist/vocalist of The Chambers Brothers and wedding band veteran who owns two music stores on Staten Island, Castellano’s House of Music. His son Richie is a multi-instrumentalist best known as a current member of Blue Oyster Cult.

The co-chairs of the evening are Dr. and Mrs. Joseph and Joan Motta, and the journal chairs are Lillian Lagazzo and Vincent Innocente. The non-profit theatre is governed by a board of directors led by Chairman Brian J. Laline as well as a staff led by President and CEO Doreen P. Cugno.
