The rising country star keeps country as traditional as it gets with new song
Jake Worthington’s new single, โIt Ain’t The Whiskey,โ is about as country as country can get. The neo traditional toe-tapper recounts a tongue-and-cheek run in with the law that fans have been fervently asking for. The track racked up over 25 million pre-release listens across the viral clips of Worthington teasing on social media.
The rising country star, who’s recent releases include duets with Miranda Lambert and Marty Stuart, spoke with TMU’s Matt Bailey backstage before a recent show opening for Zach Top in the Washington, DC area.
“It’s just a fun song about, you know, there was some real things there, but we just made a fun upbeat, fun having song and put it on the record,” Worthington says about the track. “I’m really excited about seeing folks react to it so far. We’ve never seen a reaction like that, so it’s really exciting for me. Especially knowing that the record is done. And, you know, I hope that sonically when folks hear that record, the more we put these songs out that they keep bitin’ in on it.”
Written alongside Will Banister, Jeff Hyde and Roger Springer, โIt Ain’t The Whiskeyโ is Worthington at his best, defending his innocence: It ain’t the whiskey it’s the woman by my side…”
Worthington also discussed upcoming music and what fans can expect from his live shows.
Captivating the masses with his honky-tonk stylings, Worthington will continue to bring two-step anthems to venues across the country. He continues to support Top throughout the spring with festival and headline dates in the summer followed by Jon Pardi’s Honkytonk Hollywood Tour in the fall.
