J Geils Band leader found dead at age 71

No cause of death has been revealed

Founder of the J. Geils Band, John Warren Geils, Jr., has died at the age of 71. TMZ reports the guitarist’s body was found in his home in Groton, Massachusetts on Tuesday (April 11th). No cause of death has been revealed as of press time, but police say it’s not suspicious.

Despite having the band’s namesake, Geils was not the frontman, but only the guitarist. “Centerfold” was the band’s biggest hit which stayed at #1 for six weeks. The Eagles, U2 and Billy Joel all opened for J. Geils Band during their early years in the 70s and 80s.

Other hits include “Love Stinks,” “Come Back” and “Must Of Got Lost.”

More details as they become available.
