Jam with Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, more at London Museum

It’s the same technology used to reincarnate Tupac on stage

New technology will allow fans to jam with their favorite dead (or alive) rock star via a hologram when a new museum in London opens. Go back in time and jam on stage with Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, duet with Freddie Mercury, become the fifth Beatle or scream along side Kurt Cobain as Nirvana rocks the stage.

Curators of the Music Hall of Fame, set to open in London within the next 18 months, are implementing the same technology that digitally reincarnated rapper Tupac Shakur, who was killed in 1996, to famously share the stage with fellow rappers Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Eminem at last year’s Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California. 22-year-old English singer-songwriter Pixie Lott even played a concert in hologram form using the same technology.

Music entrepreneur Lee Bennett is behind the project and told UK’s The Standard, “You could be transported back to a specific moment of music or play with artists who are no longer alive, even playing back-to-back with a hologram. I was at Coachella watching Tupac and it blew people’s minds.”

Visitors will get a “4D experience” as they play on instruments or sing as a high definition video image of the artist is beamed beside them. The technology is a 21st century take on “old Victorian parlour trick” called Pepper’s Ghost which is created by beaming high definition video images into a “3D space” created with glass panes and mirrors with fibre optic cabling.

Visitors will also be able to purchase a DVD of their performance so they can preserve their unforgettable moment forever.
