It’s been nearly five years since country singer Jamie O’Neal has released an album, but she is back with Eternal, an 11 track set which includes O’Neal’s take on classic country songs and a bonus track she co-wrote with her dad, Jimmy Murphy. O’Neal is mostly known for her #1 singles back in 2000 titled “There Is No Arizona” and “When I Think About Angels.” Her voice is pure and authentic, she stays true to the foundation country music was built on.
Produced by O’Neal and her engineer/musician husband Rodney Good, Eternal is a collection that infuses great country classics with fresh energy — featuring O’Neal’s own unique take on iconic tunes such as “Born To Run” by Emmylou Harris, “Leavin’ on your Mind” by Patsy Cline, “The Sweetest Thing” by Juice Newton, “Help Me Make It Through The Night” by Kris Kristofferson, “I’ve Done Enough Dying Today” by The Gatlin Brothers, and the George Jones and Tammy Wynette classic duet, “Golden Ring,” which features O’Neal with Andy Griggs. Her ode to these traditional country songs was remarkable. Each track was nothing short of perfection.
The bonus track on the new disc being released by Shanachie Entertainment, is entitled “Wide Awake,” the only original song included on the album. O’Neal co-wrote the tune with her dad, and says it’s an “ode to all women who have to sleep beside a snoring moose every night.” The track was fair and I believe she could have picked a better song to feature, however, her voice is incredible, nonetheless.
Eternal is a 8 out of 10, in my opinion. Jamie O’Neal is one of country music’s most talented female artists, no one has a voice quite like her.
