“Drowns The Whiskey” featuring Miranda Lambert takes the top spot for second consecutive week
Shortly after celebrating his 20th ascent to the top of the charts, country chart topper Jason Aldean takes the top spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for a second consecutive week with his 21st career No. 1 with “Downs The Whiskey” featuring Miranda Lambert. The song claims this week’s leading position on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles chart and serves as the second consecutive multi-week No. 1 smash from his record-breaking eighth studio album Rearview Town (Broken Bow Records). The track follows RIAA’s only platinum country song released in 2018, “You Make It Easy.”
Written by Brandon Kinney, Jeff Middleton and Josh Thompson, “Drowns the Whiskey” is saturated in well-worn emotions and “harkens back to songs by country legends that explored turning to vices in an attempt to stomp out a heartache” (Wide Open Country). “In true Aldean fashion, he looks at different sides of the small town experience” (Rolling Stone) as the No. 1 hit “does not stray far from what he’s been doing so successfully for more than a decade” (Kansas City Star).
Aldean is only the second country act in history to score four consecutive chart-toppers on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart with his current gold certified album Rearview Town, with six of his previous LPs having achieved platinum certification or better. The path paved by his wide-open sure-footed approach has defined the genre’s 21st century including more than 15 million total album sales and countless recognition from the GRAMMYs, ACMs, CMAs, BBMAs, People’s Choice Awards and more.
