Jefferson Starship release ‘It’s About Time’

Song impacts radio on August 4th

Legendary rock group Jefferson Starship is set to release its first new music in more than a decade. On August 21st, the rockers will release Mother of the Sun featuring the brand new single “It’s About Time,” co-written by former lead vocalist Grace Slick, who retired from singing in the 90’s. Original member, bassist Pete Sears, returns on three tracks. Mother of the Sun will be available on CD and in Limited Edition Dikipak packaging via Secret Knock.

The song was co-written with current lead vocalist Cathy Richardson and guitarist Jude Gold. It’s now available at all digital retailers. Jefferson Starship’s current members have been touring incessantly (including playing five continents with Kantner before his passing in 2016), Kantner’s final “crew” has mostly been riding out the pandemic in their homes. That hasn’t stopped them from planning a massive 2021 tour to support Mother of the Sun, their first new album in 12 years, as new dates will be announced this fall.

Jefferson Starship embodies the spirit of the band from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and features original members David Frieberg and drummer Donny Baldwin, keyboardist Chris Smith, as well as frontwoman Cathy Richardson — who was hand-picked Paul Kantner and Grace Slick — and rounded out by acclaimed guitarist Jude Gold. Massive hits like “White Rabbit,” “Somebody to Love,” “Jane,” “Miracles,” “Volunteers,” and “We Built This City” continue to reverberate in pop culture today through films, TV, commercials and heavy rotation across multi-format radio stations around the globe.

The band has released multiple platinum and gold albums and multiple Top 40 singles. The’ve earned over a billion combined streams and has an online audience of over 600K. Today’s Jefferson Starship remains dedicated to breathing new life into the living catalog of the Jefferson legacy, going to the edge, pushing the sonic boundaries and staying true to the original spirit of the music, on and off stage.
