New music is expected in 2022

New music and a biopic are being planned for the late Jenni Rivera, who died ten years ago this December after her small plane crashed in rural Mexico. Her daughter, Jacqie Rivera, who recently took over the late regional Mexican star’s estate, tells Billboard new music is expected before year’s end.

“It’s definitely music in Spanish, it’s more than one song, and it’s regional Mexican,” Rivera shares. “I think it’s very important that we tie in how she started, what [music] put her up there, and share that.”

At least 11 other unreleased songs were discovered by her Estate. Several were produced by Sergio Lizárraga, who is the head of Banda MS. The album will be released through Sony Music US Latin, although further details are unknown as of press time.

Other English language music is also in the works, but plans for those releases have not been finalized.

The family is also working on a long-planned biopic of Rivera, who was the first Latina to ever sign a production deal to star in her own TV show on a major US network. The feature film will focus on the famed life of the Banda Ranchera mega-star who touched not only her Spanish-speaking fan base, but also successfully crossed over into the US and global markets.

The Estate is also planning a concert to commemorate Rivera’s death. “a La Coachella,” as Jacqie describes it, is expected to feature performances from Rivera’s children.

Rivera was one of the most influential Latin artists whose tremendous impact in entertainment, culture and social good continues to be felt a decade after her tragic passing. Rivera is not only known as one of the best-selling regional Mexican artists of all time, but also for her role in disrupting cultural precedent by crossing into Banda, a male-dominated music genre, and eventually into pop-music, where her presence posthumously continues to shine within the entertainment sphere. She’s the winner of multiple Billboard Music Awards, 22 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 18 Lo Nuestro Awards, and four Latin Grammy nominations.
