This nu jazz album by multi-instrumentalist Joan Torres is a piano heavy medley of melodic complexity. The Beginning features an exciting lineup of virtuosos such as Sergio Gonzalez and Gabriel Vicens on guitar, Jonathan Suazo on sax, Emanuel Rivera on piano, Fernando Garcia and Gerson Orjuela on drums with Torres himself on piano and bass.
For those who have a love of or an interest in jazz with a 2015 twist, you’ll be doing yourself a favor picking up The Beginning. It features a mixture of up-tempo instrumental tracks such as the sexy sounding “Release”, “Mess” but it also features some darker groovier tunes such as “Nightmare” and “There Was You” which features some of the album’s more somber moments. Even the dark “Escape” starts out very moody but ends in a terrifically high, up-tempo place which is the main characteristic of this very sonically enchanting album.
