By now, you know that longtime Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora backed out of the band’s latest tour earlier this month citing “personal reasons.” As expected, that announcement caused a lot of debate as to whether things were okay between the legendary axe man and frontman Jon Bon Jovi (JBJ). Some reports claim Jon and Richie were at odds over money and called it a “classic Jagger/Richards feud” while the band has denied such rumors.
In an interview that aired on the syndicated The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday, JBJ sat down with the talk show host to clear things up about his band mate and right hand man. DeGeneres gave Bon Jovi a chance to address Sambora’s absence.
“Well, all I can say, honest to God, is that it’s a personal matter, but we love him very much, and he is absolutely still a member of the band,” Bon Jovi says.
This interview comes as the first leg of the tour winds down for America in San Jose, CA on Thursday night (April 25th). The group heads to Africa on May 7th and wraps their European leg July 5th. They return to the States July 12th in Chicago before wrapping for the year on October 25th in Uncasville, CT.
During his Ellen appearance, JBJ surprised the entire studio audience with tickets to their next LA show. Ellen is also giving 50 viewers a chance to win tickets to see the group perform at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in July and meet JBJ after the show.
