Journey cuts RodeoHouston concert short after fire erupts under the stage

The band was performing its fifth song when they rushed off stage

Journey was forced to cut its concert at The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo short on Friday night (Mar 14th) due to a fire igniting under the stage. The classic rockers began its fifth song of the night, “Don’t Stop Believin'” at NRG Stadium, when the audio suddenly stopped and the band left the stage. Several people with fire extinguishers were seen inspecting the drum riser.

A short time later, an announcer stated the concert had been canceled due to an electric fire. Organizers followed with a social media post.

“Due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert. We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment,” organizers share. “Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible.”

Journey drummer Deen Castronovo confirmed a fire had erupted under his drum riser with a post of his own.

“An act of God tonight!” he shared with a photo of four people inspecting the area. “Fire broke out underneath the stage—right under my drum riser!🔥😲 I was literally on fire for 4 ½ songs, all the power cables melted, and the show was a BUST! That doesn’t mean we won’t be back soon, because we love you all—and WE WILL RETURN!”

While it’s unclear what caused the blaze, organizers confirm today’s festivities will continue as scheduled.

“We are execited to host RodeoHouston and welcome Warren Zeiders today as scheduled. The stage will be operating as normal, and we will host all acitivities in the stadium and on the grounds as originally planned,” a new message states on social media. “For those who attended the Journey concert, we’ll follow up with more information soon.”

The 2025 RodeoHouston lineup showcases a variety of country music, pop, rock, regional Mexican, as well as Christian, R&B, and hip-hop artists. The 20-day event kicked off on March 4th and wraps on March 23rd. A nightly concert by a music superstar follows each day’s rodeo.
