Julia Michaels drops ‘Lie Like This’

Song follows “If The World Was Ending” with JP Saxe

Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum singer and songwriter Julia Michaels is back with her first solo release of 2020 and highly anticipated brand new single, “Lie Like This” via Republic Records.

Produced by The Monsters & Strangerz [Dua Lipa, Halsey, Maroon 5], the track exudes dance floor energy with a rapid BPM and neon synths. Her intimate delivery builds with the beat towards a hummable hook. With its glossy soundscape and uncontainable spirit, “Lie Like This” shows another side of Michaels representative of her penchant for pushing boundaries.

“It’s about being hesitant about this new, beautiful thing and just giving in anyway, because you know that it’s really special,” Michaels shares. “There are so many spectrums of love. One minute, you’re crying on the floor because you’ve been broken up with or something didn’t work out the way that you wanted to. Then, all of a sudden, you’re kissing in a park and you’re holding hands with someone new and you’ve got all these butterflies. It’s just such a broad spectrum, such a range of emotions — love — and I wanted to distill its essence into a song.”

In 2020, Julia Michaels continued her reign as one of the top songwriters in the industry. She contributed three songs to Selena Gomez’s new album Rare, including “Lose You To Love Me” — which hit No. 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 — “Look At Her Now,” and “Fun.” Additional songwriting credits include Dua Lipa’s “Pretty Please,” Zara Larsson’s “Love Me Land,” The Chicks’ “Julianna Calm Down,” “Tights On My Boat,” “Texas Man” and more.

She also collaborated with singer, songwriter, and musician JP Saxe on the heart wrenching ballad “If The World Was Ending.” Written and released in the fall of 2019, the song has connected with audiences all over the world during the global pandemic. Certified platinum, with over one billion streams, the song is currently Top 10 at Top 40 radio and as it approaches the Top 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
