Hard Lovin’ Woman doesn’t shy away from what Juliette left behind.
There was a time when Juliette Lewis was the hot indie actress/mainstream actress of the moment in film roles that seemed to be tailor-made for her (Natural Born Killers, Cape Fear). But for over a decade Juliette has established herself as a rock and roll queen with her band, Juliette and the Licks. In Hard Lovin’ Woman, we find Juliette doing what many feel she was born to be—a rock goddess—but, we also find her trying to balance her rock and roll lifestyle and her return to Hollywood.
Watching Juliette on stage performing her brand of raw rock and roll is like watching a caged animal on the loose. And her audiences come to watch her and band play their hard driving, heavy blasting music with such ferocity. Juliette is the antithesis of an actress turned musician; she’s earned her stripes by becoming a celebrated songwriter and the respect of many in the rock community, such as one of her biggest fans, Dave Grohl.
Hard Lovin’ Woman doesn’t shy away from what Juliette left behind. The documentary explores sacrifices she’s made. But it also explores how this celebrated actress had music in her blood as we watch a string of old home movies showing Juliette showing musical chops. But one thing Hard Lovin’ Woman has is Juliette being Juliette as we also watch her going off on a variety of topics.
Hard Lovin’ Woman is about a real deal performer who gives everything to her craft. It’s a good one to check out.
