Bieber recently played a show in Rock in Rio

Justin Bieber has suspended his Justice World Tour to focus on his mental health. The pop star shared the news via his Instagram Story on Tuesday (Sept 6th), citing physical and mental tolls due to his diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

“Earlier this year, I sent public about my battle with Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome, where my face was partly paralyzed. As the result of this illness, I was not able to complete the North America leg of the Justice Tour,” he writes.

Bieber resumed the trek in July, but he says he realized he needed another break after his Rock in Rio performance over the weekend.

“After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue with the tour. This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil.

“After getting off the stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need make my health the priority right now. So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being. I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better.

“I’ve been so proud to bring this show and our message of Justice to the world.

“Thank for your prayers and continued support throughout all of this! I love you all passionately!”

It’s unclear if the tour has been postponed or canceled as of press time.

In May, the pop star shared he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS), a rare neurological disorder characterized by paralysis of the facial nerve, or facial palsy, and a rash affecting the ear or mouth.

“So for those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just physically, obviously not capable of doing them. This is pretty serious. As you can see. I wish this wasn’t the cause, but obviously my body is telling me I have to slow down,” he says in an Instagram video.

“I’m gonna get better and I’m doing all of these face exercises to get my face back to normal. It will go back to normal. It’s just time, and we don’t know how much time that’s gonna be, but it’s gonna be okay. And I have hope, and I trust God, and I trust that this is all for a reason. I’m not sure what that is right now, but in the meantime, I’m gonna rest and I love you guys.”

Ear abnormalities such as tinnitus and hearing loss may also be present. RHS is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. In cases of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, previously inactive (dormant) varicella-zoster virus is reactivated and spreads to affect the facial nerve.
