The singer is running for U.S. Senate in Michigan in 2018
Kid Rock has confirmed that he is planning to run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. The rapper-turned-country-singer tweeted the news on Wednesday (July 12th) that the rumors are true.
“I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real… kidrockforsenate.com The answer is an absolute YES. Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future,” Rock states.
Michigan GOP’s have been considering Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, as the front runner to challenge incumbent Democrat Debbie Stabenow for her seat in 2018. In 2015, Rock told The U.K.’s The Guardian that he’s Republican on some issues and down the middle on others.
“I am definitely a Republican on fiscal issues and the military, but I lean to the middle on social issues,” Rock says. “I am no fan of abortion, but it’s not up to a man to tell a woman what to do. As an ordained minister I don’t look forward to marrying gay people, but I’m not opposed to it.”
Rock is an outspoken conservative who endorsed Mitt Romney for president during the 2012 campaign.
No word on when the announcement will be made. Stay tuned!
