Lady Gaga confirms ‘Joker 2’ role

Film opens in 2024

Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will co-star in the Warner Bros. Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. It’s unclear who she will portray, although she’d been in talks to play Harley Quinn. However, Gaga will star opposite of Joaquin Phoenix, who returns in the title role, after sharing a teaser trailer on social media with the pair outlined in silhouettes.

Variety reports the film will be a musical, although plot details are unknown at this time. Todd Phillips is returning as director and co-writer with Scott Silver for the sequel to the 2019 film that grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.

Joker: Folie à Deux opens in theaters on October 4, 2024.

Gaga is no stranger to the film world. Her breakout role was in the 2018 Warner Bros. musical drama, A Star Is Bornwith Bradley Cooper that earned Gaga an Academy Award, four GRAMMYs, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and Critics’ Choice Award. She most recently portrayed Patrizia Reggiani in MGM and United Artist Releasing’s House of Gucci.

Her latest film contribution is “Hold My Hand” to the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Produced by Gaga and BloodPop with additional production by Benjamin Rice, the track was written for and featured throughout the film. The motion picture version of “Hold My Hand” features additional production and score by Loren Balfe and Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer.

Lady Gaga continues her highly anticipated The Chromatica Ball global stadium tour this weekend in Toronto. The 20 show tour kicked off July 17th in Düsseldorf, Germany and promises to be a full-scale, Lady Gaga pop show that includes the first-ever live performances of songs from the No. 1 selling, critically acclaimed, and GRAMMY-winning 2020 album Chromatica and “Hold My Hand.” Shows are currently scheduled through September 17th in Los Angeles.
