The singer was 41 years old

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has commit suicide by hanging. Law enforcement officials say the body was discovered before 9 am Thursday (July 20th) at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County, according to TMZ. The singer was 41 and married with six kids from two wives.

The singer had reportedly contemplated suicide in the past due to an older male abusing him as a child. The singer, who once fronted Stone Temple Pilots, had struggled with alcohol and drugs for years.

TMZ also reports that Bennington was close to Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who committed suicide in May. The singer even penned a letter to his late friend on Twitter.

Linkin Park was set to perform in New York City next week with Linkin Park, Blink-182, Wu-Tang Clan, and Machine Gun Kelly, called “Blinkin Park.” The group’s latest album, One More Light, was released on May 19th and topped the Billboard 200 chart.

Stone Temple Pilots have released an open letter to Bennington stating, “It is a sad day today to know that so many of us will no longer share in your laughter, friendship and love. You showed us time and time again what it is to be an incredible human being. A beacon of light and hope is what you will always be to us. We love you Chester. We will miss you.”

Linkin Park has paid given Bennington a visual tribute by changing their social media photos and headers to a picture of Bennington.

Celebrities have taken to social media to express their love for Bennington.
