TMU Exclusive: Lorrie Morgan walks down memory lane in Maryland

The 90’s country star talked her music, Keith Whitley, and more after the show

Lorrie Morgan brought stories and songs to Frederick, MD for an intimate night of music at the Weinberg Center for the Performing Arts over the weekend.

Morgan loaded the front of her set with hits, offering a record-perfect “What Part of No” just third in her show order. Plus, Morgan covered George Jones—whom she worked for early in her career—Bobbie Gentry, and more.

Of course, she performed two numbers made famous by her late husband Keith Whitley. “Don’t Close Your Eyes” packs an emotional punch when sung by the woman who has dedicated herself to keeping Whitley’s legacy front-of-mind in country music.

And that effort paid off. Whitley is now enshrined in the Country Music Hall of Fame. An honor that Morgan fought for decades to achieve.

At her show in Maryland, Morgan also had funny stories in tow. She chatted about teaming up with Pam Tillis for the past ten years of their co-headlining gigs. She regaled the crowd with tales of growing up an “Opry Brat” and called country music the love of her life.

She wore a flowing sparkly dress that acted as an antagonist to her attempts to sit on a plush high-top chair. Equally sparkly were the gold and red guitars on stage. Because if you’re Lorrie Morgan, you need “Something in Red” when you perform.
