The new single “Make You Mine” is available now
Louis The Child will release their new album, The Sun Comes Up, on September 20th via Interscope Records. Always working to lift listeners’ spirits, poignant and whimsy make Louis The Child the band that it is, and all of these elements shine through bright as ever on their sophomore album. The acclaimed Chicago production duo – comprising Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett – has charted over 20 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs tally and amassed nearly two billion combined career streams.
“It’s a bit of a full circle moment,” Freddy Kennett says. “We went back to the inspirations from before people ever heard of Louis the Child.”
The duo shares one of those full circle moments, “Make You Mine” with Whethan and Hayley May. The happy, summery house track is light in love even as it hits heavy with syncopated house beats.
“We’ve known Whethan for almost 10 years now and came up around the same time in Chicago. We shared a studio back then and moved to L.A. around the same time to continue our pursuit of music,” recalls Louis The Child. “Whethan came with us on tour in Europe, and we traveled to South America for the first time on a festival run together. He’s someone we look at as a brother, and getting to release another song with him is really special.”
Whethan adds, “The first time I went to a studio and made music was with Louis The Child back in Chicago when we were still in high school. I’ve since gotten to travel the world with them. I’m excited to showcase a new collaboration that shows our evolution.”
“Hayley’s voice was like magic,” says Louis The Child. “It was our first time working with her and she just has this crazy range and soul to her voice. If she didn’t, we would have surely made a very different song that day.”
Hayley May recalls, “Working with everyone on this record was a fantastic experience. We jammed together, and I shared some topline ideas that we developed as a team. I suggested we try a slower tempo to explore melodies, and once we structured the song and sped it up, we felt great about the sound. It flowed organically, especially for our first collaboration. I’m honored to be part of this record and can’t wait for its release to the world.”
Louis The Child will kick off A Day In the Sun, a series of outdoor daytime shows, in September. The shows will feature a variety of special guests, including Whethan, who will join them in San Diego on October 5th.
