All donations go to the Music City Cares Fund
Maren Morris has released a new song with Grand Ole Opry member Vince Gill called “Dear Hate.” The track was written a few years ago, but was released this week in honor of the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday (Oct 1st).
“I wrote this song 3 years ago, recorded it last year with Vince Gill, and always have fans asking when I’ll put it out,” Morris says of the track. “I never knew when would be the right time, but I realized today that there’s never a right time. Hate is everywhere, and I’m sick of not doing enough. In the darkest tunnel, there is still love & music. That’s what it’s here for. Here is Dear Hate. Any cent I see from this I’m donating to the Music City Cares Fund.”
Due to the overwhelming response from the single on YouTube, iTunes — and other digital outlets — released the track early. Fans can purchase/stream the song from iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play and Amazon Music with all proceeds going to the Music City Cares Fund.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for the victims. The account was established by Las Vegas Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak and has raised more than $8.75 million within two days of being established. The Oakland Raiders have donated $50,000 to the fund with Florida Georgia Line, Kid Rock, The Chainsmokers and boxing legend Mike Tyson all donating $10,000 each to it, according to TMZ.
Fifty-nine people were killed with hundreds more injured after 64-year-old white male Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, NV, began firing automatic weapons from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino around 10:08 pm PT on October 1st to a crowd of twenty-two thousand on the streets below. Country star Jason Aldean was performing during the incident and rushed off stage after about ten seconds after shots began, according to various videos circulating on social media. No artists, band members or crew members were injured in the event.
