Mariah Carey forms Butterfly MC Records with Sony Music

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Carey is currently working with Starz to develop a fictional scripted drama series based on the the pop superstar’s real-life experiences. Carey is set to executive produce the untitled project alongside friend Brett Ratner. No word on its release date.

Carey is also currently producing and narrating an all-new animated movie called Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You. Based on one of the best-selling and most beloved Christmas songs of all time and the children’s book it inspired, the heartwarming story about family will be available this holiday season from Universal 1440 Entertainment. In the over twenty years since Carey released her first Christmas single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” her collection of holiday music has become more than just a fan favorite, but a classic catalogue and a true holiday staple. The iconic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is not only the singer’s biggest selling song, but with over 14 million copies sold and counting, it is one of the bestselling songs of all time—Christmas or otherwise.

The superstar is expected to release new music this year through an exclusive joint partnership of Butterfly MC Records and Epic Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. The deal effectively extends the successful long-term association between Epic and Carey, who was personally signed to the label by LA Reid in 2015.
