Currently at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and rising, “#Beautiful” (how does one pronounce the hashtag???) is an easy-going song that should form a nice soundtrack for many listeners this summer.
Featuring Miguel (best known as that singer that took the stage dive a couple weeks back at the Billboard Music Awards), “#Beautiful” eschews the synthy production common in most contemporary pop music. Instead, the song goes for echo: reverbed guitar and vocals with a steady, pounding beat throughout.
What the song lacks in hooks — the chorus is really just “you’re beautiful” and isn’t overly catchy — it makes up with an overall smooth feel. Besides drop-kicking fans, Miguel can really sing. And then there’s Ms. Carey, whose voice alone can carry a song if needed.
“#Beautiful” is just that.
