Martina McBride contracts COVID

McBride shares the news via Instagram

Martina McBride has contract COVID-19. The country star shared the news on her Instagram Story on Tuesday (March 30th), saying, she tested positive on Sunday (March 28th) and is experiencing mild symptoms.

“After a year — over a year of being extremely careful, COVID has entered the McBride household. I tested positive Sunday. At this point, I don’t even know, like, it’s not even worth speculating where I got it or how I got it — it’s just it’s still out there, you know, we’re not quite done yet, so it’s important to wear your masks and social distance and wash your hands,” McBride shares on her Instagram Story. “I think it’s a mild case. Hopefully it’ll continue to be a mild case. I have a little bit of congestion, cough — not even too much fatigue, really. I’ve been able to go about my day, just trying to take care of myself and drink lots of water and take my vitamins, but I just wanted to let you guys know it’s going to be okay. It’s all going to be okay.”

McBride says her husband — producer John McBride — also tested positive a couple of weeks ago but was asymptomatic. He received his first case of the vaccine around that time which she believes “really really saved him from a bad case.”

Martina shares that she plans to get the vaccine as soon as possible as she’s eager to return to performing.

“I think that’s what’s gonna, you know, allow us to get back together on the road again, go to concerts and be together, and I miss it. And I miss you guys, and I can’t wait to get back on stage again and share some music with you.”

As you may know, President Joe Biden has assured all adults in the United States will be eligible to receive the vaccination as early as May 1st with several states already opening its eligibility.

McBride is the latest country singer to contract COVID. Trisha Yearwood tested positive last month, but is now COVID free.

Last week, Lauren Alaina was forced to cancel a planned performance in Kentucky after contracting the virus.

Last year, Runaway June’s Jennifer Wayne, Sturgil Simpson, Olivia Lane, Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson, Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan and Jackson Browne were among those to contract COVID.

Unfortunately, we lost Joe Diffie and John Prine to COVID last spring. Charley Pride died from coronavirus in December, a month after making his final appearance at the CMA Awards in Nashville in November.
