The biopic is named after Haggard’s song, Done It All

A week after legendary country singer Merle Haggard passed away at the age of 79, it has been announced that a biopic is in the works with GMH Productions. Deadline reports that the film’s script has been completed by Cinderella Man writer Cliff Hollingsworth and will soon be sent to actors and directors.

The project, entitled Done It All — named after one of Haggard’s hit songs — has been developed in conjunction with Carl Cooper, a friend Haggard personally asked to develop the film with Hollingsworth.

The idea for the biopic came about after Haggard and producer Donald Kushner discussed making a movie about Haggard’s life. Kushner then approached Hollingsworth as a writer for hire, but Hollingsworth decided to do the project as a spec deal, as he did with Cinderella Man in 2005 which starred Russell Crowe and was nominated for three Academy Awards.

Deadline states that the script covers Haggard’s life from childhood — born into poverty in a box car in Bakersfield, CA — to his troubled personal life of a juvenile delinquent and later serving in San Quentin, to a struggling musician and becoming a country superstar releasing hits such as “Okie From Muskogee” and “Mama Tried,” just to name a few.
