Metallica debuts ‘The Lords Of Summer’ in concert Sunday

The eight minute epic song is in the style of classic Metallica

As promised, Metallica debuted a new song entitled “The Lords Of Summer” in concert Sunday night during their first “Metallica By Request” show in Bogota, Colombia. The entire eight minute song has found its way to the internet via YouTube and features an upbeat tune with a guitar solo in the style of classic Metallica.

“Lords” is the first official new music from the band in five and a half years besides their Beyond Magentic EP from 2012 that included outtakes from the Death Magnetic album. It’s assumed the track will appear on the band’s next album, slated for 2015.

Metallica has a slew of “By Request” shows slated for this summer including its only North American date at Heavy Montreal, a Canadian metal festival that will also feature Slayer, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Exodus and Apocalyptica at Parc Jean-Drapeau August 9-10.

Fans who purchase tickets to any of the “Metallica By Request” shows will receive a code to allow them to pick 17 of the band’s nearly 140 songs that they want to hear live. Metallica will round out the 18 song set list with a new song, most likely “Lords,” in some fashion, given the band’s history of switching song segments throughout their writing process.
