Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation donates $250k for Turkey earthquake relief

Band donates money to Direct Relief & World Central Kitchen

Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation has donated $250,000 to Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen for relief efforts of those affected by a massive earthquake that struck Turkey last week. On February 6th, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed mere hours later by a 7.5 earthquake, leaving the region with entire towns and cities reduced to piles of concrete.

The human toll is devastating, as more than 36,000 people have been killed. Tragically, that number is expected to rise in the coming days. The estimated financial damage exceeds $84 billion in Turkey alone. All Within My Hands has granted $125,000 each to Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen. Both organizations have had boots on the ground providing hands-on aid since the day after the quakes hit.

Both Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen are long-time partners of All Within My Hands.

“We remain committed to supporting both organizations because of their ability to reach the source of destruction and provide aid to the affected communities and individuals,” the band shares. “We hope you will join us in our support as they provide much-needed assistance to our brothers and sisters in this part of the world.”

Direct Relief is actively responding to the crisis through its network of regional healthcare partners. The organization is fulfilling requests for medical supplies with over 22 tons already allocated, such as emergency medical packs, antibiotics, cardiovascular medicines, analgesics, personal hygiene kits, oral rehydration salts, acetaminophen, prenatal vitamins, and more. Mobilizing these urgent deliveries follows the organization’s immediate response of providing financial support for search and rescue efforts to AKUT (Turkish Search & Rescue Team).

World Central Kitchen activated its meal distribution channels within hours of the news breaking, with founder José Andrés personally delivering sandwiches to a shelter. The organization set up a large-scale response that establishes and utilizes its own kitchens. While it is unable to use the local culinary infrastructure, WCK is providing support by funding local businesses directly and employing local chefs. The organization is currently distributing over 125,000 meals per day, totaling over 600,000 meals within one week.

Last week it was announced that the band’s organization raised more than $3 million at its third Helping Hands Concert & Auction that took place in Los Angeles in December 2022. Leaders from six non-profit organizations took the stage between sets from Greta Van Fleet, a guest appearance from St. Vincent, and the hosts of the evening, Metallica, who were introduced by none other than Robert Downey Jr. The event streamed live on Paramount+.

Additionally, the first donations generated by 2021’s The Metallica Blacklist compilation have been made, totaling over $1 million. More than 50 artists contributed songs to the project with all profits divided evenly between All Within My Hands charities chosen by the participating artists.

All Within My Hands is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation formed in 2017 as a way for the entire Metallica family to give back to communities that have supported the band by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services. Metallica and All Within My Hands are committed to running an organization of the highest integrity where expenses are kept to a minimum and are paid for entirely by the band, the board, and friends who have worked with the band over many years and are excited to help in this mission. One hundred percent of proceeds from The Metallica Blacklist and the Helping Hands shows and auctions go directly to help those in need, with Metallica covering all expenses.
