Contemporary Christian singer Michael W Smith is set to release two new albums in February. The first, A Million Lights, will be released on February 16th with the second, a live worship album called Surrounded, a week later on February 23rd. Both projects will come via Rocketown Records and The Fuel Music.
“About half the album was written in response to where we are as a nation,” Smith states of A Million Lights. “In the age of social media, people have forgotten how to talk with one another, to be civil.”
Eager to experiment with new sounds, Smith has enlisted multi-platinum producer and songwriter Brian Todd (Miley Cyrus and Rascal Flatts) and songsmith Kyle Lee to help flesh out his vision for the new songs. “I called a bunch of people I’d never written with because I wanted to push myself and experiment.”
The result is a beautiful 13 track collection of sweeping, epic new songs that sees Smith exploring new ground with music created to enlighten, mesmerize and touch the soul of listeners.
Surrounded will feature 12 live tracks that Smith says has been in the works for awhile.
“The thought of doing another live worship project has been something I have processed for a while now. The question I have asked myself most is not so much what do I want to do, but what do I need to do. What do WE need to do as His church and as His children? What expression of worship does He desire from us… have we missed something? The reality is, it is not the style of our expression He is concerned with, it is the heart,” he states.”
He continues, “He wants our honesty. He wants our vulnerability. He wants us to come to him as we are, not as we want to be.I feel God moving through His church and He is calling us TOGETHER…. to be one voice and one heart. One bride.
