Drummer paid homage to lost bandmate at Grammys
Mick Fleetwood says Fleetwood Mac is “done” following the unexpected death of co-founder Christine McVie in November. Fleetwood spoke to Access Hollywood ahead of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, stating it’s hard to imagine continuing the band without her.
“I would say the band is done,” he told Access. “The thought of doing things without her right now seem to be very farfetched. After a while of healing, who knows what may or may not happen but I would suspect that Fleetwood Mac is put to bed…I think it’s a bit of a tall order to imagine doing something as Fleetwood Mac, but stranger things have happened.”
Fleetwood confirms he hasn’t spoken to the other members about the end of the band at this point as everyone is still grieving.
“All of those conversations are just so far away from how we’re all feeling and we’re just absorbing what happened and losing Chris,” he says.
We spoke with Fleetwood at a press event in Las Vegas in December, less than two weeks after McVie’s passing. He did not shy away from discussing the grieving process.
“I’m doing okay. Coming to Vegas…has been a really healthy distraction from a tragedy for us in Fleetwood Mac,” the legendary drummer said.
McVie was honored during the Grammy’s In Memoriam segment which saw Fleetwood, Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt performing McVie’s “Songbird” live on stage.
