Film opens May 28th
Moby is the latest musician to get the documentary treatment. Deadline reports that Greenwich Entertainment has picked up the North American distribution rights for Moby Doc, set for theaters and digital platforms on May 28th.
The punk rocker turned electronic producer narrates the film that gives intimate access into his turbulent personal life and iconic music from struggling addict to vegan activist. The film blends re-enactments, interviews, concert and archival footage, along with clips from David Lynch, David Bowie and Shepard Fairey.
The film tells Moby’s story from his traumatic childhood to playing with his hardcore band The Vatican Commandos. It’ll detail his cross over success into the techno world with Go and his left turn with Animal Rights before leaving Elektra Records, and launching into superstardom with his fifth album Play that saw each song on the album licensed to commercials, movies and TV.
“In making Moby Doc, Rob and I had two goals,” Moby shares. “The first was to make a truly unique music film and the second was to make a film that’s unabashedly honest and vulnerable.”
Moby Doc was produced by Rob Bralver, who’s worked with the musician on a variety of videos, and Jeff Broadway (Living on Soul) with Moby as an executive producer and Marty Bales, Eric Harle, and Dave Tomberlin as co-producers.
