“American Cowgirl” is performed by the cast of the show
Arista Records/Monument Records, the official music partner of Fox Entertainment’s highly anticipated new country music drama, Monarch, has released the series’ second original cast performance, “American Cowgirl,” performed by the Monarch Cast, featuring Golden Globe nominee Anna Friel. Fox previously announced the series premiere with a two-night event, beginning Sunday, September 11th, immediately following the Fox NFL doubleheader, and simultaneously to all time zones. It then makes its time period premiere Tuesday, September 20th from 9-10 pm ET/PT.
Produced by 3x GRAMMY Award nominee and series executive music producer Adam Anders and co-produced by Peer Åström; written by Adam Anders, Heather Morgan and Casey Brown, “American Cowgirl” is a song that captures both the spirit of the show and speaks to the complicated relationship between the mother and daughter duo of country music’s first family, Dottie and Nicky Roman.
“We wanted the song ‘American Cowgirl’ to feel like an American classic, but fresh and current at the same time. It had to embody both Dottie and Nicky Roman’s characters musically and lyrically. To accomplish this we teamed up with Casey and Heather, two of the best songwriters in Nashville. When we stumbled on the lyrics ‘red lips, blue jeans, white pearls’ in our writing session, I knew had something special,” states Anders.
Monarch is a Texas-sized, multi-generational musical drama. Headed by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman, played by Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, and her beloved husband, “Texas Truthteller” Albie Roman, who is portrayed by Trace Adkins, the family has become a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette “Nicky” Roman, played by Anna Friel, will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.
Monarch is one hundred percent owned and produced by Fox Entertainment. Screenwriter Melissa London Hilfers serves as creator, writer and executive producer. Jon Harmon Feldman serves as executive producer and showrunner. Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady (The Jackal Group), Michael Rauch and top music manager Jason Owen (Sandbox Entertainment) also serve as executive producers. Jason Ensler directed the series premiere, on which he also serves as an executive producer.
This latest release follows a cover of “A Country Boy Can Survive” by Adkins as well as the show’s theme song “The Card You Gamble” performed by powerhouse vocalist Caitlyn Smith. The series will feature many original songs and covers performed by cast members and upcoming guest stars.
