Morgan Wallen demolishes first day streaming records with ‘Dangerous’

Makes history at Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify and more

Big Loud/Republic Records’ Morgan Wallen is making history with his critically acclaimed sophomore effort, Dangerous: The Double Album, after launching this past Friday (Jan 8th).

At Apple Music, “country’s new superstar” (Los Angeles Times) broke through with unprecedented force. In just two days, Dangerous has set the record for the biggest first day and biggest first week country album of all-time on the platform. After becoming the most pre-added country album in Apple Music history, the double take currently sits at No. 1 on their Overall Albums charts in the US, Canada and Australia, while simultaneously staking its claim as the No. 1 Top Country Album in 62 countries worldwide.

Meanwhile at Amazon Music, Wallen continued his hot streak, breaking their global first day streaming record for a country album debut. Keeping with the trend, Dangerous is now Spotify’s biggest all-time first day stream record for a country album as Wallen reigns No. 1 globally and in the US on Spotify’s Top Debut’s charts.

The album was leaked a week early by some Walmart stores, and was brought to Wallen’s attention when fans began sharing pictures of the album in their hands over New Year’s weekend. Early last week, Wallen took to social media to share his thoughts on the issue, writing, “If anyone’s gonna leak my music, it should be me. Links for leaks will be in my story shortly.”

“Hey y’all. It’s been brought to my attention that some of my music — well, my album — has leaked at some Walmarts around the country,” he says in a social media video. “I don’t know how that’s possible, but it has. And all the sudden some of y’all are posting trying to spread the new music which I’m super thankful for. I’m glad you’re eager to do that. But man, I’ve been working on this album for three years and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna let Walmart do the leaking like that let. So just keep up with me on here, and I’m gonna start doing the leaking of the songs myself. It’s kind of messed up, but I don’t shop at Walmart anyway. I also gave Target two extra songs, so if you’re gonna buy my album, go to Target, baby.”

Pulling out all the stops, Wallen launched The Dangerous Sessions, an acoustic video series featuring all new cuts, starting with “Sand In My Boots,” “Wasted On You,” and “Still Goin Down.”

Tonight (Tues, Jan 12th), Wallen will take the stage for his first-ever headline show at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium for Live At The Ryman – a full band, livestream concert. Wallen will play selections from the all-new double album, inviting fans worldwide to celebrate Dangerous on his Facebook and YouTube pages.
