Parton toplines an all-star cast
NBC has announced that Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas will premiere on Thursday, December 1st at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC. The film stars the global superstar and 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee alongside musical guests Jimmy Fallon, Willie Nelson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmie Allen, Zach Williams and goddaughter Miley Cyrus.
Tom Everett Scott, Angel Parker and Ana Gasteyer also star. Mary Lane Haskell, Bryan Batt, Brendan Bradley, John Newberg, Rachel Parton George, Cassie Parton Griffith, Rhoda Griffis, Kathryn Burns, Liam Rauhoff and Steve Summers round out the cast.
The film will include a pair of Parton’s iconic songs — “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You” — as well as a new holiday melody. In all, there are numerous songs that capture the spirit of Christmas and the importance of gathering with family during the holidays.
A modern-day movie musical about the making of a network TV special, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas is the frenetic backstage story and delightful on-camera results of Dolly’s desire to uplift an exhausted world’s spirits by sharing the unique mountain magic she has always found in and around Dollywood at Christmas. Throughout the movie’s production numbers and rehearsal chaos, Dolly finds herself taking a private journey into her past, guided by the mysterious appearances of her personal Three Wise Mountain Men. When it’s time for her big special to air, a renewed and inspired Dolly goes rogue and shows the world that the real magic of Christmas lies in the hearts of the children we all once were, the realization that Christmas is about the people we share it with, and how her faith remains the common thread between Christmases past, present, and future.
Parton, who is considered a national treasure, was recently honored with a large-scale mural on Lower Broadway in Nashville. Created by local artist MacKenzie Moore – whose recent credits include Kacey Musgraves’ Star Crossed album art – in collaboration with CTK Enterprises, the piece adorns Acme Feed & Seed’s exterior wall facing First Avenue.
On November 18th, Parton will release Diamonds & Rhinestones: The Greatest Hits Collection. The career-spanning, cross-label anthology features 23 essential recordings from 1971-2020 for the first time on one album and include liner notes penned by Robert K. Oermann, who collaborated with Parton on her 2020 autobiography, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics. Sony Music Nashville has released a lyric video of “Jolene” in support of the project.
The country superstar will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month as part of the Class of 2022. The 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will air on Saturday, November 19th at 8 pm ET/PT on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max. Parton recently confirmed she will record a rock album and has retired from touring.
