Neil Young cancels Glastonbury 2025 performance

The rocker cites the BBC’s “corporate control” as his reasoning

Neil Young has canceled his Glastonbury 2025 performance with The Chrome Hearts due to “corporate control” by the government-owned BBC. The 79-year-old Canadian rocker shared the news on his website, claiming he doesn’t remember the UK festival being run this way in the past.

“We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being,” he writes. “We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be.”

According to the BBC, the UK broadcaster has worked closely with Glastonbury producers since 1997. They also report that Young previously headlined the Pyramid Stage in 2009 which made headlines when only five songs were broadcast after negotiating with his management.

The BBC has declined to comment on Young’s post.

Rod Stewart is the only performer to have been confirmed for Glastonbury 2025, taking place June 25-29.
