Netflix has released the trailer to Motley Crue’s The Dirt and it’s everything fans should expect. The film is based on the band’s 2002 autobiography, “The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band” about their excess with drugs, sex, makeup, brushes with death and their share of scandalous headlines. Netflix users can stream The Dirt on March 22nd.
Australian actor Daniel Webber plays vocalist Vince Neil with rapper Machine Gun Kelly playing drummer Tommy Lee, London-born actor Douglas Booth plays bassist Nikki Sixx while Whales actor Iwan Rheon is guitarist Mick Mars.
The nearly three minute trailer opens with an bustling shot of Los Angeles before showing the band walking backstage in full glam attire. “It could’ve happened to anybody, but it didn’t. It happened to us!” Booth says as Sixx. as they grace the stage to monstrous applause.
The trailer highlights the group’s formation and their rise to the top with decadence of sex, drugs and alcohol, along with their downfalls. “I have managed The Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, KISS, but I had never been through what Motley Crue had been through,” David Costabile says as the group’s manager Doc McGhee.
The band produced the film with Rich Wilkes and Californication creator Tom Kapinos as script writers. Jackass director Jeff Tremaine directed The Dirt. Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen and Allen Kovac are co-producing while Chris Nilsson, Steve Kline and Rick Yorn and set to executive produce. The film landed at Netflix last year after several studio changes.
The band reconvened in an LA studio last year with legendary producer Bob Rock to record four new tracks for the film. They are expected to drop a new single on Friday, February 22nd.
In 2014, Motley signed a formal Cessation Of Touring Agreement that began following The Final Tour at the end of 2015. Neil reminded fans who were confused about the new recordings, “For those of you who don’t understand, yes ‘the boys’ means Motley and we signed a contract not to tour anymore. We never broke up or said we would never make music again. Hope this clears it up.”
