Arrest happened in Nov 2020

New details have emerged surrounding the DWI arrest of Bruce Springsteen in November 2020. The Boss was charged with DWI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area while at Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, NJ on November 14th after a park ranger observed the rocker “consume a shot of Patron tequila and then get on his motorcycle and start the engine,” according to CNN.

Springsteen took a shot of alcohol with fans who stopped the 71 year old on his motorcycle for a picture. Springsteen admitted to the officer that he had consumed two shots of tequila within 20 minutes of the officer’s confrontation. The officer advised the singer/songwriter that alcohol was prohibited in the park before conducting a screening in which “Springsteen smelt strongly of alcohol coming off his person and had glassy eyes.” The officer also says he “was visibly swaying back and forth while I observed his eyes.”

The officer also claims Springsteen was instructed to take 18 steps during the test, but took 45. The Asbury Press questions Springsteen’s arrest as his alcohol level was .02, a quarter of the .08 New Jersey legal level. However, the officer claims Springsteen refused to take a breathalizer test.

Springsteen is slated to appear virtually in federal court before the end of the month.

Jeep pulled their two minute Super Bowl ad featuring Springsteen after news of his November 2020 arrest surfaced Wednesday (Feb 10th). The two minute ad, which was filmed in locations across the middle of the lower contiguous 48 United States, asked for fans to reunite and meet “in the middle.” The company is pausing the campaign until further details are released.
