Steve Perry also joins social media

Don’t stop believing because it’s been a long time coming for fans of Steve Perry waiting for new music. The former Journey frontman has announced a new solo album, Traces, for October 5th via Concord Records. It’ll be Perry’s first album in 24 years.

The announcement comes following Perry’s online launch yesterday (Mon, Aug 13th). His new website, steveperry.com, has the cryptic words “I know it’s been a long time comin’…” written across a black screen along with new socials created. Many fans have been wondering what the rock icon is planning after the launch.

Perry has been largely absent from the public eye since the 1994 release of For The Love Of Strange Medicine, his last solo album. He’s surfaced more in recent years, including a widely publicized sing-a-long of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” during an NCLS game between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals in 2014. He’s also reunited with his former bandmates for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

Last month, Journey founder Neal Schon began dedicating the famed band’s “Lights” to Perry on stage during their Journey & Def Leppard 2018 Tour. Co-written by Schon and Perry, “Lights” was featured on the band’s fourth full length album, Infinity, and has become one of Journey’s most popular and easily recognizable songs.

Schon, who will be releasing his solo album in early 2019, has also expressed his wishes to work with Perry again.

“I’ve been hearing that he’s been showing up in the same coffee joint that I go to all the time,” Schon says. “Hopefully I’ll run into him soon. We had a great meeting when we met for the Hall of Fame. I realized there was still a very deep connection there. He’s had nothing but very kind words to say about myself. I’ve done the same for him. The mutual respect is there. One step at a time. I’d just like to get to know him again and see where he’s at. But I can surely tell you that I would love to just have him come and just mess around one day at Narada’s studio with the three of us, because I think we would turn out something that he would really dig.”

More details of both projects, when they become available.
