Welcome to our new column: Notable Release Notes of Interest. Here, we will highlight some of music’s most notable upcoming releases across all forms of physical media with a few digital thrown in. We will post as often as necessary to keep you informed. As always, check our Release Calendar regularly as we are always adding to the list.
Universal Music has set a Blu-ray Pure Audio edition of Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet for February 17th on Mercury. No other details have been revealed as of now, but it appears it could be an upgraded version from the DualDisc released in 2005.
On February 24th, Frontier Records will release Uriah Heep Live At Koko on 2 CD and Blu-ray Disc. No DVD has been listed as of press time.
Universal has also set Rob Zombie Spookshow International Live for release on CD on February 24th with an LP coming on April 7th. Explicit and edited versions will be available.
Capitol Nashville has set the next Luke Bryan project for release on March 10th. An early sell sheet reveals its part of his annual Spring Break collection. More details to be announced soon.
On March 17th, Geffen will reissue Lynyrd Skynyrd’s 1991 box set, Lynyrd Skynyrd, on 6 LP. The original release, featuring 47 songs spread across 3 CDs, provides a career retrospect of the legendary band. One disc featured rare demo versions of some of their classic hits, a greatest hits disc and the latter disc featuring some live tracks and other rarities.
Shout Factory is releasing A MusiCares Tribute To Paul McCartney on Blu-ray and DVD March 24th. The set will feature performances by Alicia Keys, Tony Bennett, Alison Krauss and Union Station, The Foo Fighters and many more singing McCartney and Beatles songs.
The Who’s entire catalog is coming back to vinyl. While not confirmed, it certainly appears it will be remastered on 180-gram vinyl. A Quick One, Endless Wire, Face Dances, It’s Hard, My Generation, The Who By Numbers, The Who Sell Out, Who Are You and Who’s Next will be available March 24th via Geffen Records. The Hits 50 will be released on 2 LP on March 24th.
Thin Lizzy is also seeing its catalog reissued on vinyl on March 24th. Bad Reputation, Fighting, Jailbreak, Johnny The Fox, Nightlife, Shades Of A Blue Orphanage and Thin Lizzy will all be remastered.
A wave of Frank Sinatra LP reissues are also coming from his Capitol/Reprises years. Close To You, She Shot Me Down and Watertown arrive separately on March 31st.
