It’s been awhile since we’ve posted this column, but it’s been hard to post anything as of late given some hosting issues that I hope are fixed now. We have seen quite a bit come down the pipeline for the future since our last post on February 12th, so let’s get started. Many of the following have had their own coverage in our Notable Releases, but I’ll touch on them again in case you missed them.
A MusiCares Tribute to Paul McCartney comes to Blu-ray and DVD on March 24th from Shout Factory. The release features performances by Coldplay, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Dave Grohl and McCartney himself, among others.
Also on March 24th, Rhino Records will release Bee Gees: 1974-1979 featuring 5 CDs of rare B-Sides and outtakes.
March 24th also sees the release of You Can’t Use My Name: Curtis Knight & The Squires (Featuring Jimi Hendrix) The RSVP/PPX Sessions on CD and 150-gram LP via Experience Hendrix LLC and Sony’s Legacy Recordings.
Van Morrison Duets: Re-Working The Catalogue is also set for March 24th on CD and LP by RCA Records.
Rhino will also reissue Bad Company’s first two albums – Bad Company and Straight Shooter – as deluxe editions on April 7th.
Also on April 7th, Foo Fighters will see the HBO mini-series, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, released on Blu-ray and DVD featuring an abundance of bonus material including extended interviews with Dolly Parton, President Barrack Obama and Willie Nelson, among others.
Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings will release Stillness In Motion – Vai Live in L.A. by Steve Vai on April 7th. The album will be available in separate 2 CD and 2 DVD packages.
For those interested in singing karaoke, Big Machine will issue 1989 Karaoke by Taylor Swift as a CD/DVD combo on April 14th.
In celebration of Frank Sinatra’s Centennial year, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) and Capitol Records will issue Ultimate Sinatra in a variety of formats on April 21st. The set will be available in 25-track CD, 26-track digital, 24-track 180-gram 2 LP, and deluxe, 101-track 4 CD and digital editions.
Slumerican/Shady Records/Interscope will release rapper Yelawolf’s Love Story on April 21st. Eminem serves as Producer and Executive Producer on the project.
Tyler Farr has his sophomore album, Suffer In Peace, set for April 28th via Sony Music Nashville.
Zac Brown Band will release Jekyll + Hyde on April 28th via Southern Ground/John Varvatos Records/Big Machine Label Group/Republic Records.
On May 12th, Nash Icon Records will release Reba McEntire’s Love Somebody on vinyl exclusively through reba.com. The LP is currently available for pre-order only in the Premium Package featuring the album on CD and digitally April 14th and a T-shirt.
The Complete Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Records will be issued as deluxe 180-gram vinyl box set on April 28th via Fantasy Records. The set will feature 4 LPs, a collectible 12×12 photograph of the pair and a deluxe 12 page booklet featuring rare images and extensive liner notes by Will Friedwall, co-author of Bennett’s autobiography The Good Life.
On May 12th, A&M Records will roll out a vinyl reissue campaign for Styx featuring nine titles: Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Equinox, Caught In The Act, Kilroy Was Here, The A&M Years 1975-1984, Cornerstone, Paradise Theatre and Pieces Of Eight.
Geffen will reissue Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Southern Surroundings on Blu-ray Pure Audio on May 12th.
Sammy Hagar, Jason Bonham, Michael Anthony and Vic Johnson will release a live album entitled Sammy Hagar and The Circle: At Your Service on May 19th.
Soundgarden is also prepping a vinyl release of its box set, Echo Of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path as a 6 LP Picture Disc set on May 19th.
Motorhead sees several of its catalog releases reissued on vinyl on May 19th via Sanctuary Records. Titles include No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith, Iron Fist, Overkill and Bomber.
Also on May 19th, Frontiers Records will issue Whitesnake’s The Purple Album on Standard CD, Deluxe CD/DVD and double LP.
New country female duo, Maddie & Tae, will release their first LP, Start Here, on June 2nd via Dot Records.
On June 9th, Blue Note will release Ryan Adams Ten Songs From Live At Carnegie Hall on CD and 33 1/3 LP.
And in case you missed it, Record Store Day has released its annual list featuring exclusive and limited vinyl, CD and even cassette, releases at your independent record store on Saturday, April 18th.
