Ozzy Osbourne unveils ‘Patient Number 9’

Album drops this fall

Ozzy Osbourne has unveiled that his 13th studio album, Patient Number 9, will be released on CD, 2 LP and cassette on September 9th via Epic Records. Like 2020’s Ordinary Man, the album will include an all-star lineup of featured guest artists, including Jeff Beck, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Zakk Wylde, Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, Guns N Roses’ Duff McKagan, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, the late Taylor Hawkins and Jane’s Addiction’s Chris Chaney. Andrew Watt returns as producer.

Osbourne first teased the album’s title track and first single in a video earlier this week. He debuted the track on his Ozzy Speaks SiriusXM show last night (Thurs, June 23rd).

“The song is about a mental institution,” Osbourne shares. “Having someone like Jeff Beck play on my album is just incredible, a total honor. There’s no other guitar player that plays like him and his solo on ‘Patient Number 9’ is just jaw-dropping.”

“Patient Number 9” was written by Osbourne, Watt, Robert Trujillo, Chad Smith and Ali Tamposi and features a riveting solo from legendary guitarist Jeff Beck. The video marks the first collaboration from the project with Emmy-and Grammy-winning director/producer Todd McFarlane. It is highlighted by McFarlane’s signature illustrations interspersed with live Ozzy vignettes in the role of “Patient Number 9,” which the revolutionary creative force in the world of comics and toys also filmed. In addition, this is the first-ever video to incorporate Ozzy’s artwork: his hand-drawn demons were animated and can be seen during the Jeff Beck solo in the song.

An exclusive version of the album with a limited edition special McFarlane-designed comic book as well as a limited edition comic with foil cover presented in a special deluxe box available via Osbourne’s webstore.

The announcement comes as Osbourne recovers from major surgery to fix undergoing health issues that stemmed from a 2003 ATV accident that nearly took the Prince of Darkness’ life. Sharon recently tweeted that “he’s feeling good” and is “on the road to recovery.”

Upon its release, Ordinary Man bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 as Osbourne’s fifth consecutive Top 5 entry and sixth Top 10 entry on the respective chart. It placed ahead of Scream, which arrived at No. 4 in 2010. It seized No. 1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Albums Chart (Pure Album Sales), making for his highest entry. Overseas, he shattered various records. It became his highest solo debut ever in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Italy and Austria in addition to being his second No. 1 in Sweden.

Breaking another record, Osbourne achieved the “longest run at No. 1 on classic rock radio in over a decade” with “Under The Graveyard” after its 24th consecutive week in the top spot.
